Composition

Each 2 mL ampoule contains:

• Furosemide 20 mg
• Water for injection and suitable excipients

Indications

Furosemide injection is indicated for:

• Acute pulmonary edema
• Congestive heart failure with fluid overload
• Edema associated with kidney disease
• Edema associated with liver disease
• Situations where oral therapy is not feasible

Mechanism of Action

Furosemide acts on the ascending limb of the loop of Henle in the kidneys, increasing the excretion of sodium, chloride, and water. This results in rapid diuresis and reduction of excess fluid accumulation.

Administration

• Administer only under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
• May be given by slow IV injection, IV infusion, or IM injection.
• Dosage should be individualized according to the patient’s clinical condition.

Common Side Effects

• Increased urination
• Dizziness
• Hypotension (low blood pressure)
• Dehydration
• Electrolyte imbalance (low potassium, sodium, or magnesium)
• Nausea

Warnings

• Monitor fluid balance and electrolyte levels regularly.
• Excessive diuresis may lead to dehydration and kidney dysfunction.
• Use cautiously in patients with diabetes, gout, liver disease, or kidney impairment.
• Rapid IV administration may increase the risk of hearing disturbances.
